Terpenoid

A class of naturally occurring aromatic lipids found in all classes of living things.

Terpenoids are derived from the oxidation or rearrangement of the carbon skeletons of terpenes. They are also known as isoprenoids.

Many terpenoids have antibacterial or other protective properties, in addition to being pigments and aromatics. The scent of eucalyptus is attributed to terpenoids, as well as the flavours of many spices, including cinnamon, cloves, and ginger, and for the yellow-red colouring of some plants.
